Peace begins when I remember to kiss my mommy, daddy, grandmas and brothers. It keeps growing when I hug my friends. I share with everyone so we won't have a fight. I'm kind to my family and friends. I keep love in my heart and smiles on my face.
Dana de la Garza, First Grade, age 6
Freddy Gonzalez Elementary, Edinburg, TX
Region: 4

World peace begins with me when I love all the people that I know. If all the people that I love would love all the people that they know, pretty soon everybody would love everybody in the world. I feel peace inside me when I love others.

Once upon a time there was a little princess. She waved her magic wand and wished for peace in all the land.
My magic wands are called Sharing and Caring and we can all spread world peace by using them. Harmony can once again rule our wonderful world.
Andrea McCrary, Second Grade, age 7

World peace begins with me because I control how I treat other people. Peace means more
than just not fighting. Peace means being nice to people instead of fighting. Peace means
forgiving people instead of fighting. Peace means helping other people not fight. I can do
all of these things.

I can help to achieve world peace by keeping an open mind. As a small boy in the streets of Harlem, New York, I can't hardly imagine a world without peace. It appears to me that small people seem to be the only ones thinking about peace. Everything I think about is peace; peace in my home; peace on the streets; peace in my school; peace with my friends and neighbors; peace in my mind. I once heard someone say, "a mind is like a parachute, it's no good unless it's open." So I decided that the best thing I can do for world peace is keep an open mind. It's not an easy task in the day of a small boy like me, in the morning my dad always sounds like a grizzly bear. Then, my-oh-my; the streets, the teachers, the class, "oop", there goes my open mind," it's like a time-clock! I can always reset it and start my world peace process all over again.
Ronald DeCosta, Fourth Grade, age 9
P.S. 108, New York, NY

Teacher: Mrs. Medina
I think that music is the way of peace. When I play the harp, people around me stop and listen. Even when people are arguing they are mesmerized by my playing. I think that if everyone would listen to soft music, the world would not be as bad as it is today. The vibrations of the strings may not last long, but if everyone would join in the vibration of peace would last for all time.
Martin Luther King Jr. was making loud and clear vibrations of peace and love until someone came and snapped the strings. I hope that everyone will help to rebuild the strings that Dr. King was trying to play and build a reality of peace. The vibrations that come from my music will bring peace to everyone's heart for all eternity.

We must get the message across to love and not hate. That we are all one on this super highway of life. The same air I breath today, my brothers and sisters in Africa will breath tomorrow. Also the same dust that surrounds me today will be around my fellow man in Japan tomorrow. What I can do right now is to say a prayer for our world leaders to make peace not war. I pray that I can look at my friend or someone half way around the world and see a child or an adult and see love and peace.
Esbertha Lewis, Fourth Grade, age 9
Clara Muhammed of South Florida, Miami, FL

What is peace? Peace is a candle that gives us light and warmth. It has to be struck like a match to work. I try my hardest to light that candle in other people's hearts. I go about striking that match by listening to other people's ideas, by sharing what I think, by understanding why others are the way they are, and not being prejudiced and mean to others with different ethnic backgrounds than me. What makes me feel good is that I know I tried. If everybody tries, it will make me feel even better. If no one tries, the candle will never burn. One candle joined with many others will give light and warmth to our world.

When I was a little girl of five my father was shot and killed. Since then my life has been different. My father was a police officer so he taught me since I could walk that peace was the right choice.
I still remember how he told me to keep on forgiving.
I help the world achieve peace by remembering my father's words, keep on forgiving. I forgive people for everything they've said that's hurt my feelings. I forgive the man who killed my father, because if there wasn't forgiveness, love, hope, joy, happy faces or good times there wouldn't be peace.

Peace is in people.
Peace is in teachers and in all families.
Peace is in plants.
Peace is in the earth.
It is in our dogs and cats and if you have a bird, it is in the bird too.
Peace is in heaven and the most tiniest bug.
That is what peace is.

I can help the world to achieve peace by trying to help bring peace to my own little world. America is the strongest country in the world and is a good and caring country. America must keep the peace throughout the world. I am only a nine year old fourth grader and cannot do much about world peace, but there are some things I can do in the little world where I live. I can help by caring about other people and treating them with love and respect (even my thirteen year old brother, which isn't very easy sometimes). If other boys and girls like me would do the same thing, by keeping their little worlds peaceful, maybe the adults would take the hint from us and make their worlds peaceful as well.

Altamonte Elementary, Altamonte Springs, FL

I can help the world achieve peace by being peaceful. You can not buy peace in a store. Peace starts with God. God is the warehouse of peace and the creator of peace.
We each have a physical body. We've all gone to a physician for a physical. There our body is checked. We also have a mental body . That's how we think. When we see or hear, it tells us how to respond.
We also have an emotional body, it is how we act. Just like an actor, we can act angry or destructive. We can also use our soul body to express our emotional body. We can act out being loving, peaceful and calm.
I can help the world achieve peace by choosing peace as a way to act with my emotional body. Peace starts with each person choosing to be peaceful. If you want peace, be peaceful.

I can help the world achieve peace by smiling. Have you ever been walking in your neighborhood, and you were down, and then, all of a sudden someone passes by and smiles at you. Doesn't that make you all warm inside? I know it really makes my day when someone takes the time for that little gesture: a smile. Everyone should smile more. Our world has lost some of the sense of unity it should have. Smiling can make a world of difference. If for example, you fall and start crying, you feel better when someone smiles at you and says it's okay. When you give up and you feel like you just can't, if someone smiles at you, the courage to try surges through your body and you feel that everything is okay. I'd say if people smile a little more, more peace would be in world.

I can help start World Peace by helping others. Helping someone out when they can't do something is nice and kind. It would make people feel good inside to have someone be kind to them. It would make people feel like being nice to others. I hope this will work.

To start world peace I have to avoid conflicts as much as I can. I have to care and be kind. I have to make friends. Friendship is important in world peace. I must encourage people to spread peace wherever they go. That's how world peace begins with me.

Peace can be in the darkness of night. Peace can be in mid-day light. Peace is a wonderful thing alright. I'd rather have peace than be in a fight. The world will always stay at ease long as peace begins with me!

Peace is like a seed. Give it a little love and care and it will grow into a giant tree and spread its own seeds of peace. I hope people see me as a tree not as a logger who cuts down trees and destroys peace. If we all become trees, we can cover the world with peace and stop wars and hatred. We need to work together to achieve peace; it isnt something that just happens.

I can help the World to Achieve peace by getting a good education, so I can understand the ideas, beliefs, cultures and policies of the people in different lands around me. Certain beliefs and ideas must be changed in the human mind. One cannot judge a person by his race, gender, religion, or the color of his or her skin. Mankind must come to the understanding that because a person is a different color or speaks another language or prays to a different god; does not make his or her ideas or beliefs wrong. Mankind must learn to live by and with his or her fellow man as members of the World Nation.
Alexander Kaine Fulton, Grade 4, age 9
W.O. Parmer Elementary School, Greenville, AL
Region: 3
Teacher: Patricia Moody
Peace isn't a thing, it's a feeling. It means you feel good about yourself. If you have peace with yourself you don't need to criticize others, you compliment them. If you have peace with yourself then when you are sick and you answer the phone you sound more cheerful than when you are well. It means you try your best, and you help others do their best. Peace means when you look in the mirror you are happy with what you see. If everyone has peace with themselves there would be no gangs, no hate, no wars. Peace on earth means everyone doing their best and working together. Peace spreads, if one person has peace with themself, then it will rub off on people around them. Peace starts with one person. Peace starts with me. I can make a big difference if I have peace with myself.
Angela Hardy, Grade 5, age 10
McKamy Elementary School, Carrollton, TX

I can help the world to achieve peace by becoming a productive citizen and a leader in my country. I must first set goals for myself. One is to practice good sportsmanship. This makes teams play more peaceful and fun. I understand I must follow rules set by my parents. I love them and I want to be a good son. I practice today what I want to be tomorrow. One of these days I will become a leader in my country. My goal is to be a professional football player and to become a leader. Our society looks up to successful athletes so I would use this opportunity to promote peace. World peace takes time and teamwork to be successful. My goals bring us one step closer to achieving world peace. As a team member I have learned that losing isn't failing; failing happens only if you don't try.
Derek Carlson, Grade 5, age 11
Freddy Gonzalez Elementary School, Edinburg, TX

I can help the world in a lot of ways. I can be a good person.
Here are 10 basic rules to world peace...
1. If someone falls down help them up.
2. If someone crys shed their tears.
3. If someone's hungry give them a meal.
4. If someone's sad make them smile.
5. If someone is hurt help them feel better.
6. If someone needs shelter give them a home.
7. If someone's lonely be their friend.
8. If someone is mean to you be nice back.
9. If someone is cold give them warmth.
10. If people are fighting show them PEACE.
The world is like a cake and peace is the main ingredient, if you leave out an ingredient the cake will be gross. So if the world is without peace, our lives will be gross. So remember always save room for desert.
Katie Paine, Grade 5, age 10
Nuestro School, Live Oak, CA

Teacher: Mrs. Sharma
I can help the world achieve world peace by learning all I can about different cultures. If I become familiar with their customs and beliefs, I will understand them better. My class is a little world of cultures. Hearing their languages and visiting their churches is very interesting. When they have their holiday parades and festivals, their costumes are very beautiful and the food is wonderful. I can promote world peace by aiding countries in crisis. During floods, earthquakes or other tragedies, I can collect food, blankets and clothing for them. Then they will know we care. I can encourage our representatives to teach poor countries to grow their own food by donating farm machinery and showing them how to operate it. I can write letters to our leaders, asking them to share our knowledge of space, so that we can all work together for a better world.
